ENGLAND: Adventure Overland Show

September 23 - September 24

The Adventure Overland Show is a major 2-day international event featuring overland/adventure travel + bushcraft … the actual show being Sat 23rd & Sun 24th with pre-event camping from 1pm Monday 18th Sept 2017.

Trade stands, club and vehicle displays, free seminars, low cost admission & camping. Featuring all forms of independent/organised ‘alternative travel’, the aim of the Adventure Overland Show is simple … to bring together “under one roof” so to speak, the type of folk who love exploring the great outdoors.

Now in its sixth year (we have the venue for at least 10 years), the show has already developed way beyond basic travel. It is now best described as a ‘lifestyle show’

The wide open spaces of Stratford-upon-Avon Racecourse are the ideal setting for trade and camping areas.

featuring everything from adventure tours in the UK to all forms of foreign travel – treks, overland tours, tailored fly-drive holidays and safaris to distant overseas destinations utilising bikes, motorcycles, 4x4s, motorhomes, campers & expedition trucks.

The expedition truck featured on the Channel 4 programme – “George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces”
British designed & built, CCM Motorcycles provide demo rides at the show.

Yes, the event may have begun in 2012 purely with 4×4 campers, overland trucks and adventure bikes, but even this has changed with the introduction of the very latest outdoor activities such as fatbiking and bikepacking, plus of course the popular bushcraft stands.

The Map Room: Emma Smart & Andrew Smith gave a talk about their little trip entitled ‘Around the World in 800 Days’. Having travelled through 51 countries and covered over 130,316km in their 22-year old Toyota Hilux Surf ‘Bee-bee’, they could pass on their priceless knowledge to those present.

Created last year for the first time, ‘The Map Room’ will be back for 2017. Operated by Martin McGowan and volunteer members of Overland Sphere and the Overlanding Association, an online adventure travel forum based on Facebook boasting almost 5,000 members, it proved such a hit with visitors at last year’s show, The Map Room will be even bigger and better this year. It will feature information on navigation, acquiring visas and assorted documentation, border crossings, advice on trip planning and preparation (i.e. what to take and importantly, what not to take!), ferry crossings, shipping, travel insurance, etc. By way of an example, one of the members recently returned from a year-long trip in Southern Safrica touring Botswana, Namibia and R.S.A. (Republic of South Africa), thus has up to date info about the Kalahari Desert, Okavango Delta and other key areas in the region.

Value for money is a key component of the Adventure Overland Show, thus a full programme of free seminars are included in the event’s basic admission fee. Overland travel guru Toby Savage is pictured here giving what always is an amusing and enlightening talk.
The ever popular Severn Cider beer tent, the live band ‘8 Ball Joe’ being the highlight Saturday night.

Another expedition truck featured in the media last year was the Daf of Steve Wiggleworth, whose book “Build Your Own Overland Camper” was published by Haynes.

To sum up, whether it be commercial trade stands, club or community forum representation, it is the intention of the Adventure Overland Show to represent all aspects of adventure travel whether they are African wildlife safaris, Aussie outback tours, independent overland excursions to Morocco and the like, self-drive 4×4 or motorcycle holidays in South America, trans-globe expeditions, cycle and mountain-bike holidays worldwide, guided trekking / rafting / canoeing / kayaking / climbing / diving holidays … basically all types of outdoor adventure in whatever form they happen to be.

The team behind the Adventure Overland Show also organise two overland, bushcraft and quad/ATV events in Germany:-

Adventure Southside Lochmühle, D-78253 Eigeltingen, South Germany  Fri 14 – Sun 16 July 2017.

Adventure Northside Vethem 58, Near Walsrode, Northwest Germany  Sat 30 – Tues 03 Oct 2016 (Tuesday is a public holiday in Germany).
